CSM Volleyball Heads to Nationals |
|
|
November 21, 2005
Congratulations to the CSM Volleyball Team!
For the third consecutive year and the seventh time in the last eight years, the Flames
are headed to the 2005 NAIA National Tournament. The Flames prevailed over the #19 Bellevue Bruins
for the third time this season. This win was one that outweighed the rest of them. It was the ticket
to the big dance. We earned it today, commented head coach Trish Siedlik. The Flames won the
match 30-21, 30-17, 30-22 sending a home crowd into celebration. CSM defense was a key to today's
finals. Junior libero Jennifer Sackett (13 Black Coach) finished with 30 digs. She did a great job for us today.
When she is on, we can win big. Four players finished with double digit digs in the match. Junior
Lindsey Hill finished with 15 kills and not far behind with 12 was Senior Ashley Franzluebbers (14 Black Coach).
Annie Jankowski (14 Gold Coach) has 38 set assists to set the Flames up for 47 total kills. In addition to the
defense, the Flames sealed the net with 10 team blocks. We sealed that net perfectly. We isolated
their hitters to a part of our court that we could dig them. The team worked real hard on accomplishing
that strategy. The Flames will now head to the NAIA National Championships held at Point Loma Nazarene,
in San Diego, CA November 30 through December 3. All matches at the National Tournament will be on the
webcast. The No. 13 Flames are 33-6 for overall.

Flames 2-0 This Weekend |
|
|
September 16, 2005
CSM went 2-0 on the weekend against MCAC's Haskell and Park University. Both opponents were unsuccessful
against the red-hot Flames. "We played excellent this weekend. We played consistent. I am still very
pleased with our serving game," said Head Coach Trish Siedlik. CSM was just 3 points off from tying
the school record of opponent allowed points in the Haskell match. The Flames shut out the Fighting
Indians 30-4, 30-10,30-11. Freshman Jessica Kudlacz, Premier Alumna and Coach hit .700 for the match.
"Jess did a great job of coming in and staying aggressive. She has a heavy arm and
it took some pressure off of our middles." On Saturday the Flames changed gears going
against Park University. "We knew nothing about Park except that they don't give up." CSM
went to work and finished 30-14, 31-29, 30-26. "We didn't play as smooth as we did the previous night,
but I am pleased with our passing and defense. That will win big matches." Head Coach Trish Siedlik
marked her 100th win on Friday making her the second winningest coach in CSM Volleyball History. Siedlik
is now 101-15 in her 4th season. Paul Giesselmann, who is now the Assistant Coach at Creighton
University, was 217-80 in 8 seasons. "One hundred wins is pretty amazing considering the caliber of
teams that we have faced. It takes a great coaching staff and talented, yet dedicated group of athletes
to accomplish that feat." CSM is 12-2 for the season and 4-0 in the MCAC. Bellevue will be visiting the
Lied Center at 7pm on Tuesday night.

CSM Volleyball Preseason Top Ten |
|
|
August 16, 2005
The volleyball team is right where they should be.
CSM is ranked in the MCAC at #1, in the
Region #1 and nationally ranked #7. "This is a great position for us entering in our big tournaments.
There are some great teams that we will be facing early to challenge us. We want to prove that we
are a top ten team--and early." Coach Siedlik also commented about their practices. "We are coming
along nicely. The coaching staff is very pleased with the defense and ball control which is a solid
trait of our program. Our offense is a step behind, but we can get there." CSM will open the season
on Friday night with their Blue/White scrimmage at 7pm in the Lied Center. www.csm.edu
