Rick Welch, Club Director


Rick has been the club director for Premier Volleyball since it's inception in 1997. He has been CAP (Coaches Accreditation Program) Level 1 Certified. Rick has 6 additional years of coaching with other clubs, such as Omaha Volleyball Club, Bellevue University Club, and Bellevue Juniors Club. Rick has 9 years of experience as a player for Omaha Volleyball Club/ Pefferoni's Men's Team and Omaha Sports Club co-ed teams.

Rick is a retired National Official for both USAV and PAVO. He officiated for Big Ten, Big XII, Missouri Valley, Conference USA (Division I), Northern Sun (Division II), Great Plains Athletic and Midlands Collegiate Athletic (NAIA) Conferences for over 20 years. He served 4 years on both USAV and PAVO National Rating Teams and 2 years on the Officials Training Program (OTP) Camp staff.

Rick was the Great Plains Region President from 1988 through 1998 and Secretary from 1999 to 2000. He served as the Great Plains Official's Board Chair during 1996 and 1997 and PAVO Board Chair from 1993 through 1999. Rick was awarded the USAV 2002 Gold Whistle Award for his work at the 2001 US Open Championships. Rick retired April 2010, after 31 years as a registered Architect for HDR, a local architectural and engineering company.

Shannon Smolinski, Director of Premier Performance

Shannon is in her 16th year with Premier, and is CAP I and Impact certified. She has directed Position Specific Training for all Premier athletes, Camps, Little Stars, Summer League, lessons and year round training for Premier athletes as well as non-Premier athletes through Premier Performance.

Shannon currently coaches our 15 Gold team and has previously coached Premier's 13 Gold and 14 Gold teams. In the past 14 seasons Shannon has taken her team to the Junior National Championships 11 times including 2 Top 10 finishes in the Open Division. In 2012, 2013, 2016, and 2018 (Runner-Up) her 15 Gold team had Top 5 finishes in the National Division, where 7 of her players were named to the USA Junior 15 National All Tournament Team. In addition her teams have had some strong finishes at qualifying events including Six Top 5 finishes in the Open division and 1 National Qualifier Championship in the National Division.

Shannon is a Premier alum and played 4 years for Premier. She is highly motivated, and very passionate about youth and volleyball, she pushes young athletes to work hard and become their personal best.

Shannon and her husband, Ryan, live in Omaha. They have 3 children, twin boys Jake and Tyler (13), and Macie (6).

Michelle Lund, Director of Communications/ College Recruiting Coordinator

Michelle Lund has managed all the creative development and delivery for Premier Volleyball's overall communication and marketing efforts the last 16 years. She keeps the Premier staff, it's parents and players updated throughout the club season via email, website and social media. Michelle also serves as Premier's College Recruiting Coordinator, providing the 14s-18s athletes the most comprehensive tools for making college contacts, understanding the recruiting guidelines and developing a recruiting timeline specific to the athlete's graduation year. During the club season, Michelle offers several seminars to educate Premier athletes and famillies in the recruiting process as it is something that can be overwhelming. Michelle, as well as the Premier Directors, have established numerous relationships with colleges all over the country over the years and will assist with creating connections between schools and families to further Premier athletes' futures in both academics and volleyball.

Michelle and her husband, Jim, live in Omaha. They have 2 children, Gabby (12) and Trevor (8).

Gibbie Duval has now been a strength and conditioning coach at Xplosive Edge for 11 years, and has since become owner and director of sports performance. For many years, Gibbie and his brother Zach, now head football strength coach and director of athletic performance at the University of Wyoming, worked side by side to grow the Xplosive Edge into the biggest sports performance training facility in the midwest. Over the years, Gibbie and the Xplosive Edge have maintained a close working relationship with Boyd Epley and Mike Arthur who had so much success with the "Husker Power" program for many years at Nebraska. Gibbie's father Rick was one of the first football coaches that Tom Osborne hired at Nebraska so the ties run very deep. All of the programs offered at Xplosive Edge mimic many valuable principles that were created out of the "10 Husker Power Principles" established by Boyd many years ago. Over the course of the last 10 years, Gibbie has trained a Stanley Cup champion, Super Bowl champion, Olympic Gold Medalist, and many other professional athletes. Gibbie was selected by Boyd Epley as the Nebraska State Combine Director when Boyd released Epic Athletic Performance and was also selected as the keynote speaker at the annual postural restoration institute convention in Salt Lake City, UT. Also, Gibbie continues to work with many clubs in the area and has trained over a thousand volleyball and soccer athletes in the Omaha area.

Gibbie is a "certified strength and conditioning specialist" of the National Strength and Conditioning Association and participates and speaks in several strength and fitness symposiums across the country. Gibbie is also the co founder of Tri-Planar Performance, a consultation company devised to educate strength and conditioning professionals around the country on the important of Postural Restoration and Integration into strength and conditioning and programming. Gibbie has consulted for many high schools, colleges, and universities around the nation and worked with IMG Sports Academies in 2011. Gibbie is also a "certified personal trainer" and "fitness and nutrition specialist" through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Gibbie is certified by the United States of America Weightlifting Association and holds a Sports Performance Coach Certification and also holds a certification through the Tudor Bompa Institute as a "Strength and Conditioning Expert." Gibbie also contributes and writes articles and research for Ken Kontor's Performance Conditioning Inc. as well as Stack Magazine and also contributes to the Postural Restoration Institute with research and development on the Integration of Postural Restoration into Strength and Conditioning programs. In 2013 Gibbie was named the head strength and conditioning coach for the Omaha Lancers hockey organization of the USHL in addition to being hired at Vatterott College to direct the "personal fitness trainer" program. Gibbie also recently earned his VCAP (volleyball conditioning and performance) certification through USA volleyball.

Gibbie attended the University of Nebraska Omaha where he received his Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science and was a collegiate baseball player. While living in Kansas City, Gibbie was fortunate enough to be able to study under the legendary Romanian Olympic Gold medal coach Istvan Javorek where Gibbie developed into an olympic strength coach. Istvan was the original creator of the "dumbbell complex" and Gibbie was able to work with several Olympic athletes on sports performance enhancement and injury prevention programs.
